Fuego: Fire Design

FAQs

  1. What is the Firetable made of?
We use a reconstituted limestone aggregate to make all of our products, which has many benefits for the look of the finished product. They contain contrasting dark granite chips that enhance the stone’s appearance. The stone’s surface can be finished to either a smooth washed or slightly textured etched finish that allows the granite chips to show more. We can also produce virtually any size a wide variety of colours allowing match our table to a room’s dimensions or home’s individual colour scheme. The stone tops sit on either limestone or hard woods legs. The lattice legs are made from variously coloured woods commonly walnut, oak or as. We can however stain and polish any type of wood in our workshop.
  2. How much heat does the Firetable or Fireslot produce?
Our products are not designed as a substitute for central heating but to provide an attractive flame that will be the centrepiece of your living space. The naked flame nevertheless emits an appreciable amount of heat – a much as a burner on a cooker. This gives significant ambient heat to any space.
  3. Can it be used for cooking?
Firetable products haven been designed for their aesthetic and lifestyle qualities and not for the purpose of cooking.
  4. How is the flame produced without the use of gas?
All firetable products make use of recent technological advances in the petro-chemical industry. They use a relatively new alcohol-based gel developed in Scandinavia that is not as flammable as petroleum-based fuels. It is also smokeless and does not omit poisonous fumes. The flame is contained within a Reservoir and prevented from becoming dangerously hot by design protected engineering developed by Firetable.
  5. What is the gel fuel and how safe is the firetable?
The gel fuel is alcohol-based and is not as flammable as petroleum-based fuels. Because it uses oxygen from the air the flame is simply extinguished by cutting off the air supply by covering it. It is no more dangerous that any home gas appliance or candle and the same precautions should be used. Full safety instructions for using Firetable products can be obtained on this site
  6. Where can I get the gel fuel and how expensive is it?
Garden centres and large department stores now stock the gel fuel. However, as part of our after sales we ensure that our customers have a convenient supply of quality gel fuel at cost price by providing a home delivery service. We provide litre bottles of high quality gel that is most cost effectively bough in boxes of 6 or 12 or more. Orders by phone, email or text normally arrive with 24 hours. The average cost is less than a pound per evening to use a Firetable product.
  7. How long does the Firetable burn for?
Firetable products are designed to burn for an evening without the need to refill the Reservoir. In normal room conditions away from drafts and with the Flame Reduction Ring in place, a litre of Gel Fuel will burn at a low blue flame for approximately three and a half. Without the flame reduction ring in place or with a draft a hotter flame will be produced which will burn for a shorter time.
  8. Can I use other types of Fuel in my Firetable?
NEVER use any other type of Fuel in your Firetable apart from the Firegel that is sold through us or from a reputable retailer. Other types of fuel have a higher combustion rate and will be extremely dangerous in used.
  9. How easy is it to light the Firetable or Fireslot?
Starting the flame is clean easy and convenient. The Gel Reservoir is simply filled, to about 1 inch from the top, and a flame from a match or lighter ignites a gentle flame that builds up to a full flame after a half a minute or so.
  10. Can the stone be stained?
During the manufacturing process the Firetable is treated with impregnators that make them impermeable to most stain damage. However it should be noted that as a natural product it will require a small amount of maintenance. The table’s appearance will benefit from occasional dusting. Ground in dirt, and most stains, can simply be wiped or scrubbed clean with a cloth, stiff brush and soapy water. More stubborn stains may need additional specialist work and in these cases we should be contacted. The wood legs should be dusted regularly and cleaned with a wax furniture polish.
  11. Do I need a chimney or extractor before using a Firetable product?
No, there is no need for any special ventilation. If your room is no smaller than approximately 40 cubic meters in size there is no harmful effect from the fumes. You should hardly notice any odour at all, or perhaps the slightest smell of alcohol. If the room is smaller than 40 cubic meters doors or windows should be left open for ventilated.
  12. How long will it take to hand finish Firetable product after my order?
In most cases orders can be dispatched within two weeks from our stores. In instances where we do not have reserves and when special finishes or bespoke sizes or designs are required, we build and deliver orders within six weeks.
  13. How heavy is the Firetable?
Our tables are made from stone and so will require two people to lift it. The wood legs are not heavy for one person to lift. The Lambda Table comes in three separate stone pieces and will require two people to move it.
  14. How do I put out the Firetable?
We provide a lid for the Gel Burning Reservoir. Place this lid on top of the reservoir and the lack of oxygen will put out the flame almost instantly. The Reservoir should be left to cool after the flame has been extinguished.
  15. What happens if my product becomes damaged?
As Firetables are made from stone and hard wood they are solid robust pieces of furniture. They are however still susceptible to chips, scratches and stains. Most can be repaired at home and we are happy to give telephone advice on how to keep your looking their best. Because they are expensive, sometimes one-off items, we also offer a full backup repair service that can be done in your home or where there is extreme damage, taken back to our workshop. Please contact Firetable directly for more information on our after sales repair service.
